The short version

Who's Lying? doesn't ask for your email or an account. Your scores and streak are saved in your own browser. Only if you join the leaderboard are your chosen name and scores shared.

What the game stores on your device

The game uses your browser's local storage to remember your progress: today's answers, your streak, shields and keys, your stats, your endless-mode best, the groups you joined and whether sound is on. This never leaves your device. Clearing your browser data resets it.

If you install the game as an app, your browser also keeps a copy of the game's files so it can open offline. Nothing about you is in those files.

Advertising

This site may show ads from Google AdSense to keep the game free. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technology to show ads and measure them, based on your visits to this and other websites. Where the law requires it (for example in the EU, the UK and Switzerland), you'll be asked for consent first, and you can change your choice at any time.

You can learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and turn off personalized ads at adssettings.google.com.

Analytics

We may use privacy-friendly analytics to count visits and see which parts of the game people use, such as how many cases are finished. This data is grouped and isn't used to identify you.

The leaderboard

Joining the leaderboard is optional. If you join, the game signs you in with a random, anonymous ID (no email or password) and stores the detective name you choose with your daily scores, your weekly league points and your best endless run. Your name and scores are shown publicly on the leaderboard and in the weekly league. This data is kept on Google Firebase. Pick a name that doesn't identify you if you'd rather stay private.

Progress backup

So you don't lose your progress when you change phones or clear your browser, the game backs up your progress (the same things it saves on your device) on Google Firebase under a random save code. There's no name or email attached. Anyone who has your save code can open and continue that progress, so keep it private. You can find your code in Settings.

Friend groups

If you create or join a friend group, the group's name and the detective names of its members are stored on Google Firebase. Anyone with the group's code can see the group and its members' daily scores. You can leave a group at any time.

Sharing your result

When you tap Share, the game creates a short text with your score and a challenge link. The link holds your detective name, your result and your time, so a friend can try to beat you. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to paste or send it.

Daily reminder

The daily reminder is a normal event in your own calendar (Google Calendar or a calendar file). The game doesn't send notifications and doesn't see your calendar.

Children

The game is made for a general audience and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from children.
